Haggerty Brace Seals Hoosier’s Season Opening Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana women's soccer earns the season opening victory against Hampton University with a final score of 2-1. Defender Bella Haggerty scored the brace leading to the first win of the season.

With the win, the Hoosiers advance to 1-0 in the early season.

KEY MOMENTS

The Hoosiers started the game out fast as midfielder Jenna Chatterton found an open lane down the field. She would find Haggerty on the left side for a rocket goal just outside the box, taking the early lead in the second minute of the game.
Indiana continued to put the pressure on the Pirates, recording eight shots through the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the 65^th minute, the Hoosiers lined up for a corner kick. Midfielder Ella Stanley took the kick and found Haggerty for the header brace at the opposite post, giving the Hoosiers the 2-0 advantage.
Hampton found the back of the net with the goal from Caitlyn Peace in the 71^st minute but did not have enough to tie the game, leading to the 2-1 Hoosier win.

NOTABLE

Haggerty recorded the first brace of her career.
Haggerty is the first Hoosier to score multiple goals in a game since Grace Hamm last season (2 vs. Xavier)
Indiana outshot Hampton 19-3.
The Hoosiers recorded seven shots on goal in the game.
IU lead the game in corner kicks 8-1.
