Weekend Snapshot
The Hoosiers are looking to return to the winning column in Friday's home contest against Ball State. Indiana have dropped their last two contests, a pair of close games against California and Miami University. In the early going, Indiana have showcased a handful of players who have played in all sorts of positions, including Kate Barber, Mollie Getzfread, and Claire Woods. Indiana's game against Ball State is the only out-of-conference game between them and their Big Ten opener, which takes place next weekend at home against Iowa and Northwestern.
Hoosier Notables:
Hoosiers Home Stand: Indiana plays their second of four consecutive home games on Friday, April 18. The Hoosiers will take the field to face the Ball State Cardinals. The Hoosiers are 10-5 all-time against the Cardinals, winning their last two meetings. Last season, Indiana won 2-0 over Ball State on the road.
A New Season, a New Era: Indiana Field Hockey welcomes three new coaches to the Hoosier family. Head coach Amanda Janney enters her first season as the head coach of the Hoosiers. She is joined by first-year coaches Kelly Terwilliger and Ayla Halus. The Hoosiers return 13 letterwinners from their 2014 campaign, including 2014 All-Big Ten selection Sydney Supica.
Running With the Redhawks: Indiana's last outing was their home opener against Miami, a 3-1 loss. The Hoosiers allowed two goals in the first ten minutes, but fought hard through the remainder of the contest. Nicole Volgraf netted her first goal of the season in the second half, a deflection of a brilliant hit by Kate Barber from outside the circle.
Casing the Cardinals: The Ball State Cardinals are 1-6 in non-conference play this season, their lone win at home against Appalachian State. Ball State will look to their dynamic attacker Lexi Kavanaugh, who has five goals and two assists through seven games. Indiana will be Ball State's fourth Big Ten opponent this season, having previously playing Rutgers, Northwestern, and Ohio State.
Six pick up sticks: Six new Hoosiers will make their home debut on Friday: Freshmen Nora Aucker (Pennsylvania), Charlie Kaste (Germany), Noëlle Rother (Germany), Taylor Swope (Ohio), and Claire Woods (Missouri). Joining the five freshmen is redshirt sophomore Elle Hempt, who transfered to Indiana from Temple University.
Oh Captain, My Captain: Coach Janney has selected three captains to lead the Hoosiers both on and off the field this season. Senior forward Nicole Volgraf is joined by a pair of juniors, Kate Barber and Mollie Getzfread, as co-captains for the 2015 season.
