Indiana to Host No. 5 Maryland and Rutgers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– After a weekend in Pennsylvania, Indiana Field Hockey is back at home for two conference matches. The Hoosiers will host No. 5 Maryland on Friday, Oct. 4 and Rutgers on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Deborah Tobias Field.
WEEKEND REWIND:
-Indiana split matches during their trip of Pennsylvania. They lost a tough match at No. 19 Penn State, 3-2, and bounced back with a 3-0 shutout at Lock Haven.
-Despite the loss, Indiana showed their resilience, keeping the No. 19 Nittany Lions in check through the second half of the game.
-Penn State scored two quick goals, but Inés Garcia Prado would score right before the break to make it a 2-1 game.
-In the second half against the Nittany Lions, Indiana held them to just four shots.
-Indiana drew closer with a goal from Sydney Keld late in the fourth period to make it a 3-2 game.
-The Hoosiers would make one last effort as they earned a penalty corner with eight seconds left to play, but they could not convert.
-On Sunday, Indiana bounced back in a 3-0 win at Lock Haven.
-Yip van Wonderen shined as she scored three goals in the game. She was assisted by Lara Mortz and Theresa Ricci on the first and second goal but secured the hat trick on her own as she scored the third unassisted.
-Sadie Canelli made four saves in the cage in the Hoosiers' victory.
BIG THREE EFFORT:
-Yip van Wonderen, Inés Garcia Prado and Sydney Keld have been living up to expectations so far as the team's biggest offensive factors.
-All three were voted as Preseason Big Ten Players to Watch and are currently the top three point scorers for the Hoosiers. Van Wonderen leads with nine points while Keld and Garcia Prado each have six.
-The three have the most shots taken for Indiana, too. They combine for 53 (43%) of Indiana's 123 shots.
-Van Wonderen and Garcia Prado have 19 shots taken while Keld has launched 15.

-Five different Hoosiers have scored a goal this season: Inés Garcia Prado, Yip van Wonderen, Sydney Keld, Mijntje Hagen and Maggie Carter.

-The Hoosiers are earning more shot opportunities than the competition. Indiana is averaging 15.4 shots per game compared to their opposition's 9.4 shots per game.
-Indiana has outdrawn opponents in penalty corners throughout the season, 48-39.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
-Indiana will play its fourth ranked team of the season as Maryland is currently ranked No. 5 in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
-Maryland is 5-3 with wins against No. 7 Louisville, No. 17 Boston College and No. 13 Rutgers. Their losses are all to top-5 ranked teams: No. 5 Duke, No. 3 Virginia and No. 2 Northwestern.
-Kylee Niswonger currently leads Maryland with four goals scored. Josie Holloman, Fleur Knopert and Hope Rose follow in the scoring ranks with two goals each.
-All six assists for the Terrapins have come from a different player.
-Maryland is outshooting their opponents 94 to 45 and 56 of those shots are on goal this season.
-Sunday's match with Rutgers will be just the second in Bloomington of the last six meetings with the previous matchup being a 2-0 Indiana win in 2022.
