No. 5 Indiana’s Acrobatics Earn Big Ten Road Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Stephane Njike's first goal as a Hoosier was the difference in No. 5-ranked Indiana soccer's (6-0-1, 1-0-0 B1G) Big Ten opener, as the Hoosier men defeated Michigan (2-2-1, 0-1-0 B1G) 1-0 Friday (Sept. 11) night in Ann Arbor.
The third-year forward performed his signature backflip celebration after giving Indiana the lead in the 65th minute at the U-M Soccer Stadium. IU goalkeeper Michal Mroz performed his own acrobatics minutes later, saving a free kick headed for the top corner. The Hoosiers held strong in the final 20 minutes to complete a professional performance and claim three points in the Big Ten table.
Indiana remains unbeaten through seven matches with six victories and four cleans sheets. Friday's result marks IU's first road win this season in two tries.
KEY MOMENTS
• 26' – Njike was denied early by the Michigan goalkeeper. The Indiana forward cut inside from the left, made a man miss and fired to the back post, but U-M's Alen Bean pushed it away with a diving effort.
• 63' – Oliver Moller-Jensen had a chance to finish on an open goal, but two Michigan defenders sandwiched the Hoosier forward just in time to deflect the shot.
• 65' – GOAL! Njike ripped the ball off a Michigan player, dribbled toward the box and past another Michigan man, ripped a grasscutter from 25 yards into the side netting, performed a handspring and then one, two, three, four, five backflips before enjoying a mosh pit in the corner with his teammates. • 68' – Indiana gave away a free kick 30 yards out. As Joao Paulo Ramos' shot bent toward the top corner, Mroz leapt and pushed it over the bar with his left hand.

• Njike, a Maryland transfer, scored his sixth-career goal and fifth game-winning goal in Big Ten Conference play.
