No. 11 Indiana Erases Two-Goal Deficit in Opening Day Draw

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The third-largest crowd in program history pushed No. 11-ranked Indiana to a two-goal comeback against No. 9 Clemson, resulting in a 2-2 draw Thursday (Aug. 21) night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
The Hoosiers fought from down 2-0 in the 57th minute, with goals from transfer forwards Palmer Ault and Jacopo Fedrizzi. A crowd of 6,395 – IU's largest since the record 7,720 in 2013 – watched the season opener between two top-15 teams.

KEY MOMENTS
• 1' – Indiana had its first chance in the opening minute as combination play down the left wing found junior forward Collins Oduro with a chance near the top of the box. Oduro shot with pace towards the near corner, but a defender just got a foot to push it away from goal.
• 9' – Coming inside from the right wing, Fedrizzi found Ault between two defenders in the box. Ault fired to the far corner, but his attempt glanced off the post.
• 31' – GOAL! A mistake in its defending third gave the ball to Clemson senior midfielder Nathan Richmond, who turned and quickly fired a curling shot from 23 yards out. Clemson 1, Indiana 0
• 57' – GOAL! Sophomore midfielder Ransford Gyan put away a spot kick after IU freshman goalkeeper Judewellin Michel was charged with a foul in the box. Clemson 2, Indiana 0
• 64' – Clemson would play the final 26 minutes with 10 men as freshman midfielder Kwaku Agyabeng received a second yellow card. The Tiger clipped Colton Swan from behind after the Hoosier freshman beat him with his first touch.
• 67' – GOAL! Indiana earned its own chance from the penalty spot after Swan received a push in the back from Clemson junior forward Remi Okunlola on an aerial ball. Ault sent the keeper the wrong way and cut the deficit in half. Clemson 2, Indiana 1
• 81' – GOAL! The game found redshirt freshman Nolan Kinsella – in his debut – with space down the right wing. Kinsella fired in a curling cross, over a leaping defender and into the foot of Fedrizzi. Fedrizzi froze the keeper and sent the Armstrong Stadium crowd into a frenzy as he ran to the corner to celebrate the equalizing goal. Indiana 2, Clemson 2

• Indiana moved to 30-14-9 in season openers, 32-10-11 in home openers and 6-5-2 in the all-time series with Clemson.
• Nine Hoosiers made their cream and crimson debuts: Judewellin Michel, Victor Akoum, Jacopo Fedrizzi, Colton Swan, Palmer Ault, Ben Do, Cristiano Bruletti, Drew Gaydosh and Nolan Kinsella. Michel, Swan, Gaydosh and Kinsella all made collegiate debuts as well.
• Michel is the first true freshman goalkeeper to start a match since Roman Celentano in 2019. Celentano, however, did not start the season opener.
